Teaching Girls to Woodwork
The Girl Scout Gold Award Building Up Girls! is all about teaching young girls a male-dominated hobby, woodworking, to expose them to vocational careers. Only nine percent of construction/trades workers are women in a world where the importance of a woman's voice grows more important by the day.

Root Cause |
Issue |
Society urges girls to engaged in more dainty, feminine activities. Because of that, there are not many women in vocational careers such as construction, trades, plumbing, car maintenance, etc.
SMART GoalI will teach three woodworking classes to thirty girls in elementary and middle school, and through that, twelve benches will be created that encourage women to enter vocational careers, all by the end of September 2019.
|
Through my project, I will address the lack of women in the careers of construction and trades.
ResultsWithin four workshops, me and my team of experts educated forty one girls, build eight benches, and actively educated hundreds of people about my issue.
