sustainablityOne of my biggest focuses throughout my project has been sustainability. Here is how Building Up Girls! will be sustainable.
|
- The benches have an encouraging quote by workshop attendees on them, inviting girls to consider a career in trades or construction. My message will continue to educate people long after my workshops in this way.
- I have this website and a video is posted on YouTube
- Most importantly, my benches have a QR code and link to this website! It is a laminated piece of paper attached with metal. The website also gives details about my workshop and pictures of the girls building the benches!
- The park rangers and employees will maintain the benches, cleaning them if necessary and ensuring that they stay in the correct place.
I gave a ten-minute presentation in front of my entire school about my workshops, and I shared my website and video with them afterward. I reached an audience of near three hundred in this way.
Four Winds Day Camp is a Girl Scout day camp in Johns Creek, Georgia hosted through GSGATL. It is hosted at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and includes activities like games, crafts, canoeing, cooking, and skits. Amy Barton is the activities coordinator for the camp, and she will ensure that the camp includes woodworking as a craft at least once every year. I will share my final report, website, and video with her so she can incorporate the career path of construction and trades into the wood-working activity. Also, I will donate half of my leftover lumber to the camp for the woodworking activity next year.
Once my final report is completed, I will share final report, video, and website with the art teacher at my school so when she teaches woodworking, she can talk about the career path of construction, and especially trades, because art has a huge role in many trades jobs.
I will share my final report, video, and website with capital construction, so they know the significance of hiring women. I will specifically share my project with the career outreach program, so they can cater to both male and female applicants.
